At more than $150 a pop, it’s probably no surprise that we get lots of questions about trying to find cheaper, more affordable sources for the Singulair. If you have asthma, seasonal allergies, or other respiratory problems, the Singulair is one of the most commonly-prescribed treatments, but unfortunately, it’s also pretty pricey.
Well, the good news is that Merck’s patent on Singulair is finally expiring. The bad news is that Singulair still isn’t due to go generic until August of 2012, so it’s going to be at least a year until a cheaper, more affordable generic version of Singulair will hit the market.
Crummy! And I Still Can’t Afford $150 for Singulair!
Okay, the situation is not great (to say the least!), but there are still have some options for cheaper, more affordable Singulair:
The Singulair Coupon Program. Merck offers coupons for Singulair regularly on its website. The current Singulair coupons is only a one-time $20 coupon, but many pharmaceutical companies get more generous with their coupons when a drug is about to go generic so it’s worth checking to see whether Merck ups the value of the Singulair coupon in the next few months.
The Singulair Patient Assistance Program. Merck runs a Singulair Patient Assistance Program for patients who qualify which cuts their Singulair costs significantly. To be eligible for the program, patients must not have prescription drug coverage, must live in the U.S. or territories, and must earn at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty Level.
Singulair Free Samples. If you and your doctor know you need to take Singulair for a short-period of time or the Singulair sample is going to help patch you over a tough month or two, by all means… take the Singulair samples, but keep in mind, prescription drug samples are not a long-term answer if you still have difficulty paying for your Singulair. If you can’t afford your Singulair after the samples run out, it’s time to talk to your doctor about a longer-term solution.

Has anyone tried Accolate? I cannot afford $260.00 for a 30 day supply for singular and my samples are running out.
I cannot breathe with out taking this.
Thanks for your comment, Maureen. Have you tried the contacting the Singulair Patient Assistance Program? They may be able to help you out with getting your Singulair. You should also try our forum to see if anyone has any other suggestions.
I have taken Singulair 20 years-changed my quality of lifeE. This drug controled my asthma and allergies. I began the generic form 8/28/12-had asthma attack 10/04 first in 20 years, back on daily breathing treatments. Allergies kicked in with bad sinusitis, drainage and dry hacking cough 10/17/12. Anyone else had a problem? I reported mine to FDA.
I too had taken Singulair for years for allergic asthma, and it controlled my symptoms very well. Was placed on the generic in Sept 2012, and within days began seeing my old symptoms return. Two months later, I’m back to full-fledged allergy attacks and breathing issues. My insurance benefits WON’T work with me, as long as there is a generic available. Can no way afford over $200/month for Singulair.
I read the title… no where in the article does it mention an alternative… yoy! Anybody want to chime in WITH an alternative?
