Arizona Gov. Brewer Defends Cutting Transplants; Long-Term Care, Nursing Care, Home Health Care On the Chopping Block

To follow-up our blog on Arizona’s cuts to its transplant list, we’re sad to report that not only is Governor Jan Brewer not backing down from the the funding cuts which have dropped almost 100 people from the state’s transplant list, but she has announced that more healthcare funding may be cut as the state tries to close its budget gap.

What’s on the chopping block? A better question might be what isn’t on the chopping block to be cut out of the Arizona state budget?

“Going down in this next session there are a lot of things that we are going to have to look at, getting rid of dialysis, long term care, nursing care, home health care, we have already taken seriously ill people off generics and those don’t always work for those people,” she said.

“These are difficult decisions. We have cut $2 billion out of the budget, we have mortgaged the state Capitol, yes we mortgaged the state Capitol, we’ve increased taxes and we have no other choices, and then comes ObamaCare and blows another half a billion dollars in our budget.”
