At almost $270 a pop, it’s probably no surprise that we get lots of questions about trying to find cheaper, more affordable sources for Actos. If you or a loved one suffers from Type 2 diabetes, Actos is one of the most commonly-prescribed prescription treatments, but unfortunately, it’s also one of the most pricey.
The good news is that the patent on Actos will expire next year. The bad news is that it’s still a long, long time until 2012 which is still the earliest that a generic version of Actos can hit the market.
Crummy! And I Still Can’t Afford $270 for Actos!
Okay, the situation is not great (to say the least!), but we still have some options for cheaper, more affordable Actos:
The Clarinex Instant Savings Coupon. The Actos Advantage Program is a special rebate program that can help Actos patients save up to $50 off their Actos prescriptions.
The Together Rx Access Card. Together Rx Access cardholders save on average 25 to 40 percent on brand-name prescription products. Hundreds of prescription products and generics are included in the Program, including Actos. The Card is free to obtain and use. Your savings will be individual and depend on the prescription drug, quantity, and selected pharmacy.
The Actos Patient Assistance Program. Takeda Pharmaceuticals (which sells Actos) offer assistance to patients who meet the required income level, do not have medical insurance coverage for prescriptions and/or are ineligible for government or private programs. Patients with Medicare Part D coverage may also be eligible for assistance. Patients who meet the program’s eligibility criteria are provided with financial assistance for Takeda Pharmaceuticals products like Actos .
Actos Free Samples. If you’re having a hard month or two, you may be able to get some help from your doctor through free Actos samples. Pharmaceutical reps pass prescription drug samples out to doctors all the time, so ask your doctor is he or she has a few Actos samples to help you out. However, if you need help with your Actos prescription for more than a few months, prescription drug samples are not a good long-term answer. If you can’t afford your Actos after the samples run out, it’s time to talk to your doctor about a longer-term solution.
Generic Actos from Online Foreign Pharmacies. Unlike some other drugs like Advair, generic Actos is actually available outside the U.S., and it can be ordered online from foreign pharmacies for a fraction of what it costs in the U.S. While not legal, the FDA and the DEA do not generally go after private individuals who bring in small (90 day and less) supplies of prescription drugs from overseas. That being said, this is still not a legal practice and it can be gamble on the safety and effectiveness of foreign meds. We strongly suggest being cautious on where you order foreign prescription drugs from. For more on ordering prescription drugs from overseas, check out our blog: O, Canada!
