At almost $300 a pop, it’s probably no surprise that we get lots of questions about trying to find cheaper, more affordable sources for the Advair diskus. If you have asthma, COPD or any of a laundry list of respiratory problems, the Advair diskus is one of the most commonly-prescribed treatments, but unfortunately, it’s also one of the most pricey.
The good news is that GlaxoSmithKline’s patents on Advair are expiring. The bad news is that there are so many patents involved in Advair that it’s hard to predict when generic Advair will ever be available. Even more of a problem is that Advair is so complicated that it’s been hard a drug to copy, so who knows when a cheaper, more affordable generic version of Advair will hit the market.
Crummy! And I Still Can’t Afford $300 for Advair!
Okay, the situation is not great (to say the least!), but we (and I count myself) still have some options for cheaper, more affordable Advair:
The Advair Breathe Easier Program. If you only need Advair on a one-time basis, the Advair Breathe Easier Program can help you get your first Advair prescription free of charge. If you have already filled your first Advair prescription, you can still get a discount on your next prescription of Advair. The Advair Breathe Easier program will also send additional Advair discounts by e-mail.
The Advair Patient Assistance Program (Bridges to Access). GlaxoSmithKline runs an Advair Patient Assistance Program for patients who qualify which cuts their Advair costs to $10 a month for a year. To be eligible for the program, patients must not have prescription drug coverage, must live in the U.S. or territories, and must earn at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty Level.
Advair Free Samples. If you and your doctor know you need to take Advair for a short-period of time or and the Advair sample is going to help patch you over a tough month or two, by all means… take the Advair samples, but keep in mind, prescription drug samples are not a long-term answer if you still have difficulty paying for your Advair. If you can’t afford your Advair after the samples run out, it’s time to talk to your doctor about a longer-term solution.
