Free Mobile Mammograms Available in Connecticut in February!

The St. Vincent’s Women’s Imaging Center’s February schedule for its mobile mammography coach is out! If you are in Connecticut and haven’t had a mammogram in a while, this is a great opportunity to get your mammogram screening for the year for free if you’re uninsured or at low-cost if you have health insurance.

The digital mobile mammography coach is equipped with a waiting area and two changing rooms, an attractive interior that provides privacy with the state-of-the-art digital technology. St. Vincent’s mobile mammography program is only the second in the state to offer full-field digital technology, enhancing detection, especially in dense breast tissue, and allowing for an almost immediate review by a radiology technician.

Mammograms are free for those who do not have health insurance, have financial limitations and qualify for assistance. For those with insurance, mammograms are low-cost. Appointments are necessary and a physician order and insurance card must be brought to the appointment.

To schedule an appointment or to find out more about the program, call St. Vincent’s SWIM Women’s Imaging Center at (203) 576-5500. To schedule a screening site for your office, community center, school or church, call the Mobile Mammography Coordinator at (203) 576-5501.

The American Cancer Society recommends that women receive an annual mammogram starting at age 40, obtain an annual clinical breast exam by a healthcare professional and perform monthly breast self-exams. Breast cancer is the disease many women fear the most, and early detection and treatment can dramatically improve a woman’s chances of survival. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women, and leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women ages 40 to 55. If detected early – and mammography is the best way to do that – the five-year survival rate for patients is more than 90 percent.
