The King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky has released its mobile mammogram van schedule for April, and there are plenty of opportunities for women in Kentucky and Ohio to get their annual mammograms easily and in some cases for free. (Women who have health insurance including women with Medicare may also schedule to receive a mammogram and have their health insurance billed). Doctors advise women to have a yearly mammogram and pap tests starting at age 40 and earlier if they have a family history of breast cancer.
Because it is so important to detect breast cancer in its earliest stages, King’s Daughters Medical Center no longer requires a physician order for screening mammography. “Our goal is to make it possible for women to get the screening exam they need with as little hassle as possible,” said Debbie Miller, Community Relations Manager for King’s Daughters. “Many women told us the physician order requirement made it difficult – if not impossible – for them to follow recommended screening guidelines.”
All tests are performed by specially trained mammography technologists using digital equipment, which results in less radiation exposure. Mobile mammography appointments are available between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. To schedule an appointment, please call (606) 408-2742 or toll free 1-877-304-1935.

The American Cancer Society recommends that women receive an annual mammogram starting at age 40, obtain an annual clinical breast exam by a healthcare professional and perform monthly breast self-exams. Breast cancer is the disease many women fear the most, and early detection and treatment can dramatically improve a woman’s chances of survival. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women, and leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women ages 40 to 55. If detected early – and mammography is the best way to do that – the five-year survival rate for patients is more than 90 percent.
