Well, you know that question we’ve been asking for the last several days, Are you ready for Medicare Open Enrollment? Apparently, the answer for many seniors is a resounding No!
But for once, the federal government is going to do something about it. With a crush of last-minute sign-ups and calls from panicked seniors and their families, the federal government is taking the unusual step of extending the Medicare Open Enrollment for three days but only if you contact Medicare or one of several groups who assist seniors during the Medicare Open Enrollment season by close of business today!
Agencies you can call for help to extend your deadline are: Medicare’s toll-free information line, 1-800-633-4227; counselors with the government-funded State Health Insurance Information Program (SHIP), and other Medicare-partner organizations such as the Medicare Rights Center, local agencies on aging, and the National Council on Aging.
You can leave a message with any of these organizations for help with your Medicare enrollment, and someone will call you back to help you. Remember, you must call before close of business today, and all Medicare Open Enrollment still has to be completed before Sunday! Medicare is giving you one last chance to change your Medicare Advantage plan before getting locked in for all of 2012!
“We are committed to providing Medicare beneficiaries with the information and time they need to make these important decisions about their care,” said Brian Cook, a Medicare spokesman.
