Early Detection Saves Lives! Senator José M. Serrano and the Project Renewal ScanVan Program will be sponsoring a series of FREE Mammogram Screenings for the 28th District! Free screenings will be available for women 40 years of age and older who have not had a mammogram in the past year. Please RSVP to 1(800)-564-6868 for an appointment as space is limited.
Project Renewal’s ScanVan is the nation’s first mobile radiology clinic to provide both mammograms and chest x-rays to homeless and poor patients. The ScanVan meets two critical needs: serving poor and homeless women with little or no access to breast health services and screening for tuberculosis. The staff provides counseling, education, and initiates and ensures follow-up treatment for all positive screenings.
Again, space is limited, so call 1 (800) 564-6868 for an appointment today!
The American Cancer Society recommends that women receive an annual mammogram starting at age 40, obtain an annual clinical breast exam by a healthcare professional and perform monthly breast self-exams. Breast cancer is the disease many women fear the most, and early detection and treatment can dramatically improve a woman’s chances of survival. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women, and leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women ages 40 to 55. If detected early – and mammography is the best way to do that – the five-year survival rate for patients is more than 90 percent.
